I work a day job as a receptionist/office manager at a natural health clinic, a very public position, and I have to put some thought into my daily outfits. Though our office sees some of the most liberal members of our foothill community (think patchwork overalls, dreadlocks, giant crystal necklaces), there are always some clients who have just sort of "stumbled upon" natural medicine from the straight world. I try to keep them in mind when I am getting dressed!
Today's ensemble features this cool purple dress that I recently thrifted, made of an open-weave, kind of nubby synthetic. It kept me the perfect temperature all day, paired with an old favorite hat, a brown knit with a pom pom on top. This hat fits well with some pretty granola-esque outfits, but since it sits kind of like a beret, I've found that it also goes well with more streamlined dresses.
The necklace is from Eclectic Liz on Etsy, and I got loads of compliments on it all day. It is brass-colored, and has dozens of tiny green stones clustered together in the center. Sorry I didn't snap a close-up!
One thing I hate at work is feeling dumpy. Not that there is anyone to look cute for, 99% of the time, but a girl just wants to look good for herself. The fitted style of this dress is perfect for me!
On a "what I got for Christmas" note, I present this great Eddie Bauer down vest that my mom found for me. I can vintage shop all day, but "real" stores wear me out, so I had to give this challenge to my mother this year. She is the master of the Department Store and persistent as hell. This one is perfect because it is black, thin, and extra warm. It is worn as an under layer, (though it is pretty cute- note faux fur collar) and it makes a HUGE difference in how I experience the winter weather! Thanks Mom!

cuteness! i hope you'll be posting your outfits with some regularity :)
wishing you have a safe and very happy new year! hope 2010 is terrific for all of us!

I know exactly what you mean about dressing for work. I often find it quite hard to keep myself as conservative and businessy as I should be dressing, especially in summer when I just want to wear as little as humanly possible.
I think that you're looking exceptionally cute in your purple number, with the boots and the beret! I also love the background of these pics - it looks like you're about to take off on some sort of adventure :D
