When we first got our cats, Mouch and Zazou, I had ambitions that they would be stars of the Cat Circus. You heard about the Russian Cat Circus on Broadway a few years ago, right? Supposedly the director recruits the stars by hanging out in a giant room of kittens, and picks out the ones who show natural talents for climbing, balancing, etc. Then he trains them with pieces of chicken. (Chicken?) Anyway, I soon discovered that Zazou would walk around balanced on his hind legs for a treat.
Yes, I was a clown for Halloween once upon a time. I was rebelling against "sexy Halloween".
Mouch, on the other hand, found the whole idea humiliating, and would only give a cursory, heavy half-hop on before plopping back down with a confused look on his face. I felt so bad for him that I eventually stopped Zazou's training. Still, every once in a while Zazou displays the skills that could have made him a cat celebrity. He actually climbed this tree at my command, for the photo. Cleverest cat ever.

Oh them kitters!!
Holy, heck, what a family!
