Inspiration is funny- you just don't ever see it coming. I started reading Amber's blog post about "Mori Girl" style in Japan when it hit me.
Hitomi Nomura, owner of the Tokyo boutique Grimoire
It was almost like physically getting the wind knocked out of me. I don't just "appreciate" these wild, imaginative, storybook fashions... I love them. In fact, this has always been true of my reaction to Japanese street fashion: I feel deeply connected to it because it is the most expressive, creative, over-the-top street fashion in the world. I love to do sculpture, and I love to do collage, and obviously I love vintage clothing. So why am I just selling a dress as a dress, when it can easily be something so much more?
I practically ran to my sewing box, and proceeded to make the entire upstairs a disaster zone of fabric and ribbons and trim and little birds and feathers. I think I made five outfits (including matching headwear) in three days! Duh, I thought... the outfits people always love the most are the so called "crazy" things I make for myself to wear onstage. What if I use actual needle and thread on these creations (instead of just pinning them together, which I usually do in the rush leading up to a show) and then release them into the world? It's not like I don't have a shop to sell them in!
I have no idea why this didn't occur to me before now. It is one of those things that has been hidden in plain sight. But funny enough, I feel like I have been waiting for it, all winter long.
Photos to come soon- the sun is out and I am rarin' to go!

Your enthusiasm is contagious. I am eagerly anticipating the new photos!
Totally- your performance outfits are always so amazing, and you have the skillz, it is kinda funny that it took this long to put it all together! Perfect timing though, spring brings so much new energy.
