Nevada County is famous around the world for its homegrown musical talent (think Joanna Newsom, Alela Diane, and Mariee Sioux, for starters), but the artistic culture of this area also attracts musically- inclined folks from all over the state of California. The Moore Brothers are transplants from Oakland, and I first used to dig on them when I drove around West Oakland as a shuttle driver (for Lonely Planet Books!) blasting college radio. Their songs come from a magical place that is entirely their own creation (is this a sibling thing?), a Robyn Hitchcock-meets-The Everly Brothers world of sweetly surreal lyrics and stunning vocal harmonies. They also know how to work a crowd like nobody's business. I drove into town to see them on Friday night, where they played some fabulous new material, and got the whole of the Chief Crazy Horse bar singing along to their version of "Billie Jean". I knew I had to introduce all of you to them right away... I hope you enjoy the Moore Brothers experience!
I like Greg's tribute to Ron Mael from Sparks with the pencil mustache & round glasses.
