Last weekend Chris took me to a huge comic and gaming store in Citrus Heights. I love comics and graphic novels, but I must admit I was never a Gamer, and have never rolled a twenty-sided dice in my life (for those of you who are already totally lost, I am talking Dungeons and Dragons-style gaming here, aka, role-playing, or fantasy gaming). There was a tournament being held inside, and while part of me (the ironic hipster part) wanted to mock the assembled kids, who were the kings and queens of nerdcore with their greasy hair, comic book t-shirts, and bags of fast food, I actually had to give them some serious respect. They weren't online, there were out playing with other people in real life. That's hard enough for anyone, especially awkward teenagers. And these games are, in reality, not only Mensa-level challenging strategy-wise, but they take an incredible amount of imagination and thinking on your feet to play well.
Chris used to game as a kid, so he eventually managed to worm his way into a game night that some of his friends hold here in Grass Valley (he works at a place that sells comic art via mail order, incidentally). I was fascinated with the 20-sided dice, and have some notions of making a necklace using them, so I made him ask the dude at the counter to pick some out for us. He knew the lingo, come to find out: they are called "D-20s". I think they are beautiful and geometric (there's that theme again!), like pyramids in space.
Call me a nerd- I've heard worse. I'll just be over here having a good time.
Space pyramids!!!!! The heart of nerd core.Love it!!

NERRRD!!! The dude at the counter was probably thrilled to sell a girl 20-sided dice. He probably went home to tell his mom about it after work. I used to be an indie comic book/graphic novel nerd so I can say such things.

Good call Sash, those are super neato and will make killer necklaces. I like your perspective on the nerdy teens too, there's more to everyone and every situation than our little minds would sometimes like to believe. Being around preschoolers all the time makes me really aware of how seemingly irresistible it is to feel superior, to win, to be first, to be smartest. I commend you for ignoring the self-righteous hipster inside you (inside all of us)

Hmmm, Citrus Heights eh? You know, my friend Hannah JUST moved (alone) to Citrus Heights from here (Kentucky).
She used to be a signed model but dropped it all over personal ego principles. I would LOVE if you all could meet sometime. I know she would love to model for you, and to meet a (seemingly) lovely other.
:)
