My Diary from 1999, when I lived in a 70s Dodge van near the beach in Leucadia, California.
Hello! I'm the owner of the big van parked behind you. I'm in a bit of a bind, because I need to move my van early this evening, but it doesn't have a REVERSE gear. The only way out is forward.
Every collage I made that summer involved images from a fishing catalog that had come to the surf t-shirt shop where I worked. The astronaut card was from a boutique which opened behind the t-shirt shop, run by a psychic from Brazil who liked to brag about smoking pot with with Mazzy Star.
I lived in the van with a dear friend, a healer and artist who also happened to be a former Miss Colorado. We spray painted our names on the side of the van when we moved into it, and we made the tight quarters work by consuming a bottle of red wine every evening as we watched the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. One evening I realized that the band Blondie was a few yards away, watching the sunset with us. I went to grab another bottle of wine, thinking I could break the ice with it, but by the time I got back to the beach, they were gone.
O my those olden golden dazes ; ) I am learning more about my wild creaturess with every entry ! Love the Blondie bit & wish I were sittin' in that van with you right about now sippin' vino and watchin' a sunset...Ahhhh . Reminded me of " The Bucket" a rusty old Datsun I had when living up in Serene Lakes & working at Sugarbowl. It was a totally rusted out can w/out any seats . It had a broken or no muffler and started with two wires twisted together - there were no keys. Also it didn't go in reverse if the headlights were on....had no wipers so I had to drive home from work with my frozen face out the window tryin' to see during a snowstorm....I actually had the vulva to drive that thing all the way ( Illegally in every way-and no registration !! ) to Oakland for a show & back. I made it somehow...more luck gettin' around that way those days...prob. because there were more funk mobiles on the roads back then and you could *blend* in...'ecept for that roaring mufflage ...
